Anybody know if there is any vis in the general Durban area? Want to dive tomorrow but don't know how accurate sharks board report of 5m at umhloti of 4m at bluff is.
PS thanks for the lock Chris - came today, very quick. Budies will be stoked as they won't have to sit round the bakkie waiting for me AGAIN
Now, I am a real skeptic...there is a lot of blah blah rubbish out there.
Well I just did a big dive this morning...
Got a reverse current and ended up swimming for 35 min before reef hooking on the drop off. Dived hard for a good part of the morning...
While cleaning fish Coatesman gave me some of that jungle juice (dive recovery)stuff to try. I just phoned him 5 minutes ago to tell him that today is the first time ever i do not have snorklitis after a long hard, deep dive.
If the proof is in the pudding...then i am convinced. Would like to try it again to see if it is consistent.
anyway there you have it....
Firstly you are right about the MPA in Southern Moz. This however consists of different zones. And you will be alowed to dive all the way till the Elephant park, but only shooting Gamies. (not sure when this comes into effect.)
On the main topic re the license fees etc. Refardless of the law each area will have their own rules and tariffs. Its not a question of right or wrong, the guy on the ground has the ability to make your life hell and he will do so should you not work to his system.
Examples are:
Gunjata - game fish only! (this is a 'local law' because of the bubble blowers)
Bilene - total ban on diving (because guys went there and pulled the ring out of the fish and kept flooding the local market the locals got upset and dont like spearo's)
I have heard similar stories of guys up at Vilenculos where they get arrased for shooting Reef fish even when they are well out of the MPA there.
Bottom line is pay your dues, keep it clean .... and keep a low profile.
Some times its best to hit the beach in baggies with all the suits and guns packed away. The fish in the hatches... even haul out a fishing rod. (noboddy minds fisherman filling a hatch) Only take out one or 2 fish for photos and the rest sort out at camp.
mmmm. good point...all true. Which explains all the Cape stuff...Some whites spotted down the Dune again and at the hoek...maybe returning to normal after a abnormal last 100 years or so!
who knows...all i know is the big Sharky and the rodent don't mix so well!
